The Great Moment of Batik Sidoarjo

a couple of hours ago KIBAS had succeed to held Opening Ceremony of its annual Batik Exhibition(party for exactly, it was just too fun to be called ceremony)

Different Dots

Familiar with the word “amba-titik” ? it means to put dots (nitik) into fabric, the origin root for the “batik” word . Some book reviewed this as direct link to the very early stage of batik art in Java, when batik process has originated from India with its “Chintz” and “Patola Clothes of ikat process” as reference. This example’s actually not trying to imitate those techniques but rather to give example that dotting still has rooms in batik design vocabulary. Serve as background, it define patterns in otherwise blank space between main theme; in this example; bouquet (buketan) . It also appears as details that build the volume of each sub details such as the bone of the leaves, different parts of flower petals and rocky formation below.
