Perfect Pamekasan

Although it may not known for its finely detailed execution, sometimes we encounter one or two pieces so fine but still retain its identity. As one of the batik center in Madura, Pamekasan has always produce more “common” in theme and quality compared to those of TanjungBumi Bangkalan. But not this one. The overall appearance has said ‘common’ as it is, but it all change with coser observation.
Finely executed “isen-isen” has the overall impact of over-crowded , something reserved only piece with semarangan-style Batik Pasisir.
The isen-isen background uses ‘bulir-padi’ style, densely-packed rice grain that also has understated philosophy of abundance (berkelimpahan). Although done with details, it still recognizable as Pamekasan-influenced Batik Madura because of the color composition and pattern preference of somewhat stiff flower arrangement (bouquet).
The important thing we can see that this over-dense background has serve as lighter background for ‘shadow-playing’ of main pattern. Rather than bold and strong, the main theme of flower bouquet has appears as ‘shadow’, hollow space presented by the lack of light crowd of background , the same principle found in both wayang kulit craft and most of traditional Pamekasan Style As for the overall impact, this important piece of Batik uses the finest Primissima Cotton as smooth as light silk and the batik has done in both sides of fabric (see: nerus’i)
